Algerian president wins third term

Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has officially won 90.24% of the vote in a presidential election.

An opposition party, which had called for a boycott of the polls, claims there was fraud on an "industrial scale" and a newspaper reported rioting east of the capital.

The result, announced on Friday, gives Mr Bouteflika, 72, a third five-year term as president, which means he can stay in power until 2014.

Election officials put turnout at just over 74% - higher than in the last presidential vote.
