SANZAR officials worried about TV ratings

Rugby officials in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia are worried that falling TV ratings and attendances for Super 14 rugby could affect their bargaining power when they renegotiate their deal later this year.

SANZAR's current five-year deal, worth more than $NZ500 million, expires at the end of this year.

However, despite strong ratings and gates last year, the 2009 Super 14 series has seen a significant drop in attendances and viewing figures on both sides of the Tasman.

Under the SANZAR broadcasting deal, competition options for super rugby and the Tri Nations series must on the table by the end of June.
