A thriller starring R&B singer Beyonce Knowles topped the weekend box office in North America.
Obsessed stars Knowles as a woman who fights to save her marriage after a pretty office temp falls for her husband.
Columbia studio said female moviegoers comprised 58% of the audience, and 49% of all viewers were aged under 25.
Last weekend's champion, the comedy 17 Again," slipped to second place.
"Fighting was third. The Soloist, a drama starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey, Jr., was fourth.
Downey plays a Los Angeles Times columnist who befriends a homeless musician (Foxx). Critics mostly liked the movie, but the Los Angeles Times was a notable exception.
A documentary, Earth, was fifth.
