Delhi Commonwealth Games chief organiser Suresh Kalmadi has been questioned over accusations of fraud by federal investigators in India.

The BBC reports the build-up to the Games last October was overshadowed by sleaze, incompetence and missed construction deadlines.

Mr Kalmadi, an influential sports administrator and member of the governing Congress party, denies any wrongdoing.

Three other senior officials from the Games organising committee were arrested in November.

They are accused of forgery and cheating over the awarding of contracts before the event. The three men have denied the charges.

The Central Bureau of Investigation searched Mr Kalmadi's homes in the capital, Delhi, and in the western town of Pune in December, and the also home of his personal secretary.
