Burmese pair given refugee status after surviving on chilly bin

Two Burmese men who say they survived 25 days at sea in an industrial-sized chilly bin have been granted refugee status in Australia.

The men have been held on Christmas Island since being found about 60 nautical miles north-west of Thursday Island in the Torres Strait in January.

The Australian Immigration Department says they are part of a group of five from different boats who have been granted permanent protection visas.

The men are about to be relocated and are expected to live in either Western Australia or South Australia.
