TV late night host change-over

12:48 pm on 30 May 2009

Jay Leno ends his late-night talk-show role on NBC TV in the United States on Friday.

He will be replaced by comedian Conan O'Brien on Monday.

Leno has been host of The Tonight Show for 17 years, appearing five nights-a-week at 11.35pm. He is now heading for prime-time television, starting at 10pm.

O'Brien will be the fifth host of the Tonight Show in its 54 year history, following Leno (1992 - 2009), Johnny Carson (1962 - 1992), Jack Paar (1957 - 1962) and Steve Allen (1954 - 1957).

He previously hosted the Late Night show for 16 years, starting at 12.35am.
