Former Ivory Coast president moved to villa

The former leader of Ivory Coast has been moved to an undisclosed location in the north of the country.

Laurent Gbagbo and his wife were taken into custody earlier this week after long drawn out fighting between his supporters and those of successor Alassane Outtara.

They have now been flown by a United Nations helicopter to an unnamed location where they will be detained in a villa, the ABC reports.

Mr Ouattara says Mr Gbagbo will be treated as a former head of state should be and provided appropriate security.

Mr Gbagbo refused to cede power to Mr Ouattara, who had been declared the victor of the presidential election in November last year.
