Passengers set late trains on fire

12:01 pm on 3 May 2011

Commuters set fire to three passenger trains in Argentina because of severe delays to their journeys.

In one incident, passengers lost patience with railway personnel and threw the driver and ticket inspector off one train.

The disturbances involved dozens of passengers and happened almost simultaneously at three railway stations on a line near the capital, Buenos Aires.

The BBC reports the trouble started during rush hour on Monday morning.

A derailed train caused severe delays. Stranded passengers then set fire to at least eight wagons at three railway stations along the railway line.
