The police in Fiji have interviewed a New Zealand journalist and cameraman for two hours in continuing fallout from the flight of a former military commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Ratu Tevita Mara.

Colonel Mara is in exile in Tonga after fleeing Fiji and has been bitterly attacked in recent days by leaders of Fiji's interim administration.

News websites in Fiji say Colonel Mara's wife, aunt and niece have all been interviewed by the police since his flight, and his aunt has had details of her bank accounts seized.

TV3 sent a reporter and cameraman to Colonel Mara's wife's house to investigate this story.

They ended up being interviewed for two hours by police, immigration officials and the Ministry of Information before being released.
