An English council is taking legal action against Twitter in the United States.
South Tyneside Council in north-east England went to court in California in an attempt to discover the identity of a blogger behind defamatory statements.
The BBC reports the blogger, known as ''Mr Monkey'', has made a series of criticisms and accusations against councillors and council officers.
