At least 25 Pakistani troops died in an ambush by the Pakistani Taliban near the Afghan border on Tuesday.

The ambush took place near a security checkpoint in Upper Dir.

The BBC reports heavy weapons and helicopter gunships had to be used to repulse the attack.

Upper Dir is regularly targeted by insurgents.

At least 13 troops were killed in a similar cross-border raid by Taliban in the Lower Dir district two months ago.
