The British government says it needs to radically rethink how the country produces and consumes its food.
It says ways must be found to grow more food while using less water, energy and fertilisers, help feed the world and offset the effects of climate change on agriculture.
Environment Secretary Hilary Benn says a sharp rise in food and oil prices last year and a severe drought in Australia have served as a wake-up call.
He also says there are growing threats to world food supplies from global warming, water shortages and population growth.
