Mass burial held for burned girls

1:09 pm on 26 August 2009

A mass burial has been held in Tanzania for 12 schoolgirls aged between 13 and 16, who died in a fire in their dormitory at the weekend.

Their bodies were burned beyond recognition.

They had to be placed in un-named graves until they can be identified individually by DNA testing.

Police say the fire was probably caused by a candle used by one of the girls to study at night.
