Samoans to drive on left hand side from next week

Samoa has decided to press ahead with a change to driving on the left hand side of the road from next week.

Radio New Zealand International reports the government held a special Cabinet meeting on Tuesday following a protest march in Apia staged by the group People Against Switching Sides.

The group wants the driving change delayed until all the necessary requirements for road safety are implemented. It took court action last week, but failed.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi says the change has already been delayed a year and the government will implement it as planned on Monday.
