The town of Beslan in Russia is marking the fifth anniversary of a hostage-taking in which 330 people died, more than half of them children, when Chechen rebels seized a school.
The rebels took more than 1100 people hostage - most of them children - and demanded the withdrawal of Russian troops from Chechnya.
The BBC reports the siege ended after three days when Russian special forces stormed the building following a series of explosions.
