The Western Australia government has pledged to fully investigate an incident where a woman with suspected swine flu gave birth to a still-born baby without hospital staff noticing.
The ABC reports the woman, who was 23 weeks pregnant and in an induced coma, was being treated at the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth for pneumonia and swine flu when she gave birth to the stillborn boy.
A nurse found the baby in her bed when checking on Mrs May.
Health Minister Kim Hames told the ABC in a statement the death is tragic and that the case will be reviewed by two health committees.
On Saturday, hospital management said it stood by its medical care delivered to all patients admitted with swine flu.
The family has requested a coronial inquiry.
