Australian doctor dies after ski accident

An Australian doctor has died after a skiing accident in Canterbury.

Stan Siejka, 51, of Tasmania, died at Christchurch hospital on Thursday after he was seriously injured in a fall at the Porters ski area on Wednesday.

Dr Siejka, a neurologist, had been on holiday in New Zealand with his family.

Launceston General Hospital director of medicine Alasdair MacDonald says Dr Siejka had worked in Launceston for about 20 years.

The death has been referred to the coroner.
