Jerry Leiber, who along with Mike Stoller wrote such huge rock hits as Hound Dog and Jailhouse Rock, has died in Los Angeles. He was 78.

Leiber and Stoller met when they were 17. Lieber wrote the words and Stoller the music.

Elvis Presley, the Drifters, the Coasters, Ben E. King and Peggy Lee were among the many artists who recorded their work.

Lieber and Stoller were inducted into the Songwriters' Hall of Fame in 1985 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame two years later.
