Forum seen as running out of time

A Pacific academic says the Pacific Islands Forum is running out of time to help island countries deal with the effects of climate change.

At their recent summit in Auckland, New Zealand, Pacific leaders called for easier access to resources that have been made available for climate change adaptation.

Dr Steven Ratuva of Auckland University says countries like New Zealand and Australia have been slow to respond to the pleas of the smaller Pacific states.

He says the region is also running out of time for Pacific nations to use their own resources to deal with the threat of climate change.

Dr Ratuva says the forum needs to show a united front over climate change.
