New Zealand Monopoly champion Geoff Christopher has finished second at the world championships in Las Vegas.

The 25-year-old risk analyst from Auckland, also known as the Nimble Thimble, was competing in the final round against 41 national champions at the 13th edition of the World Monopoly Championships at Caesar's Palace casino.

The event was screened live online by ESPN on Thursday.

Mr Christopher saw off a challenge from Russia and the United States, before going bankrupt, handing the title and a cheque of $US20,580 to a player from Norway.
