Four accused of Australian terror plot to stand trial

4:52 pm on 26 October 2009

Four of the five men accused of plotting to attack an Australian army base have pleaded not guilty to terrorism charges.

The Melbourne men have denied conspiring to attack the Holsworthy base in Sydney.

The court heard on Monday the men have chosen to go to trial rather than face a committal hearing in the Magistrates Court, the ABC reports.

Magistrate Peter Reardon committed the men for trial in the Supreme Court.

Abdirahman Ahmed, Saney Ayweys, Yacqub Khayre and Wissam Fattal did not apply for bail and will reappear in November.

Nayef El Sayed did not enter a plea on Monday and is expected to face a committal hearing next year.
