Trans Tasman and Jetstar flights still operating

10:12 pm on 30 October 2011

Trans Tasman and Jetstar flights are still operating, planes on the route between Auckland and Los Angeles have been grounded.

Flight QF25 that was due to leave Auckland for Los Angeles at 2.05pm on Sunday has been cancelled.

Flight QF26 from Los Angeles that was due to arrive in Auckland at 9.10am on Sunday was also called off.

House of Travel retail director Brent Thomas says travellers on the trans Tasman flights that are going ahead will still face problems when they get to Australia if they are booked on connecting flights with Qantas.

He says two trans Tasman flights have been cancelled - one due in Auckland from Sydney at 12.05pm and one due to leave Auckland for Sydney at 12.45pm.

Mr Thomas says a significant number of New Zealanders will be affected.

Air New Zealand says it's offered to take some of Virgin's trans Tasman flying capacity, so the Australian airline could redeploy its capacity in the domestic market.

But it says Virgin has indicated it does not need to take up the offer at this stage.
