Russia to oppose new Iran sanctions

Russia says it will not support new sanctions against Iran, following the publication of a report by the United Nations' nuclear watchdog.

The International Atomic Energy Agency report raises new concerns about Tehran's nuclear programme.

The report says Iran has carried out tests relevant to the development of nuclear weapon.

Both France and the United States say they will pursue new sanctions against Iran in light of the report.

However, the BBC is reporting that Russia's deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov says any additional sanctions would be seen as an instrument of regime change.

He says that approach is unacceptable to Russia.

Russia's foreign ministry says the report does not contain "fundamentally new information."
