CIA activities uncovered in Lithuania

6:17 am on 23 December 2009

An investigation in Lithuania has found the CIA did use the country as a site for secret detention facilities in the aftermath of the attacks on the United States in September 2001.

The BBC reports a special commission has also concluded that flights by the agency into Lithuania may have carried al-Qaeda suspects.

The commission said no Lithuanian officials were allowed near the aircraft and the country's leaders were unaware of what was happening.
