Eurotunnel says its staff reacted quickly to help Eurostar passengers stranded in the Channel tunnel in a pre-Christmas breakdown and were not responsible for any failure in communications.

The company is accuses Eurostar staff and British police of contributing to a delay in evacuating passengers from trains between Britain and continental Europe.

The breakdown was caused by condensation from melting snow damaging the trains' electrical systems.

All services were cancelled for three days.
