Bomb explodes in Lebanese capital

12:51 pm on 27 December 2009

At least one person has been killed in a bomb blast in the Lebanese capital Beirut.

Reports say the explosion occurred in a stronghold of the Islamist militant group Hezbollah in the city's south.

The BBC reports the bomb may have targetted Hamas, which effectively controls the Gaza Strip inside the Palestinian territories, and has representatives both in Beirut and in neighbouring Syria.

The Lebanese national news agency NNA said three bombs were placed under a car, and that two people were wounded.
