Demonstrators have returned to their Aboriginal Tent Embassy in Canberra after a heated protest march on Parliament House on Friday.
The group chanted for recognition as they marched to the doors of Parliament.
Some then burned an Australian flag in protest to loud cheers.
Despite a heavy police presence, the ABC reports, the authorities were unable to hold an initial cordon at the edge of Parliament's forecourt and were forced to retreat in the face of overwhelming numbers.
Some of the group were involved in a violent scuffle with the police on Thursday during Australia Day celebrations to mark the arrival of British settlers.
The Prime Minister Julia Gillard and opposition leader Tony Abbott were rushed away after Tent Embassy protesters surrounded a building they were in.
The protesters were angry that, earlier in the day, Mr Abbott had questioned the continued relevance of the Tent Embassy, which was founded 40 years ago after the McMahon Liberal government rejected a proposal for Aboriginal Land rights.
