The man accused of killing 77 people in Norway on 22 July 2011, has asked to be freed during his remand hearing in an Oslo court.
The prosecution requested that Anders Behring Breivik be held for 12 more weeks, until his trial in April 2012.
Breivik was allowed to speak briefly during the hearing on Monday and stated that he should be given a medal, citing that his actions were in defence of the people of Norway.
He has admitted detonating a bomb in Oslo that killed eight people and then shooting dead 69 at a summer camp on an island near the capital.
The court was due to rule on the application later in the day.
