Australia signals closer engagement with Pacific

From News Extras

There is a call within the region to adjust the Pacific Islands Forum's security policy.

Since 2000, the guiding document has been the Biketawa Declaration but now new risks are being identified, such as climate change and transnational crime.

The challenges were discussed by the region's foreign ministers who met in Fiji as they prepare next month's Forum leaders summit in Samoa.

Walter Zweifel asked Anna Powles of the Massey Centre for Defence and Security Studies in Wellington if it was time to adjust the policy.
