SICA Peace Office says Solomons needs clear direction

5:43 pm on 16 December 2002

The Peace Office of the Solomon Islands Christian Association says the country's leaders must show the will power and courage to set a clear direction for individuals, organisations and the nation.

In its end of year assessment of the state of the nation, the Peace Office says the police force has got to show leadership where it is called for and take pride in the upkeep of law and order.

The Office says this includes paying attention to the personal conduct of police and properly dealing with compromised officers.

It says the economy remains in a serious crisis and everyone must work together to find responsible ways of using resources.

And it says while there is a need for tough decision making by the Government, these actions must be fair and reasonable and could include public demonstration of pain sharing.
