Fiji prime minister says Labour must make next move in multi-party cabinet impasse

Fiji's prime minister, Laisenia Qarase, says the ball is in Labour leader, Mahendra Chaudhry's court over the impasse over the multi-party cabinet.

The Supreme Court ruled four weeks ago that Labour should be included in such a cabinet.

Mr Qarase says he is following the law and was ready to name his cabinet last week, but Mr Chaudhry wanted more time, so he gave him more time.

"We have agreed that when he comes back from his next trip overseas, and that would be the week after next, we will defenitely make a decision. The ball is in his court. He has to make up his mind whether he comes into my cabinet or he opts for opposition."
