American Samoa's current governor, Togiola Tulafono, and the Lieutenant Governor, Ipulasi Aitofele Sunia, have put themselves forward to stand for another another term.

Togiola Tulafono officially announced their candidacy before a crowd of 600.

He emphasised he had presided over a period of economic stability:

"The unprecedented standard of living we now enjoy in American Samoa today is a direct result of long range development planning and economic stability achieved primarily through continuity and good governance."

Togiola Tulafono stepped up from Lieutentant governor to governor last April when he suceeded the late Tauese Sunia.
