3:46 pm on 28 April 2004

The Vanuatu State Law Office has called for a judicial review of the election of President Alfred Maseng.

Mr Maseng was elected on Easter Monday but it has since been revealed he has a criminal record.

He has a conviction on three counts for aiding and abetting, misappropriation and receiving stolen goods but this information had not been revealed to the Electoral Commission.

There is also the possibility that as President Mr Maseng may pardon himself of the conviction.

The State Law Office says it expects the legal proceedings to go ahead later this week or early next week.
