There are calls in Fiji for the government to resign after the president turned down its proposed commission of inquiry into the military commander.
The spokesperson of the SVT party, Ema Druavesi, says the president, Ratu Josefa Iloilo, made the right decision when he rejected the inquiry because it was based on a series of unsubstantiated allegations.
The government had intended to hold the commission after allegations were made that Commodore Frank Bainimarama planned to overthrow it, if he wasn't re-appointed.
Ms Druavesi says these accusations should have been investigated by the police but the government never went through the proper procedures.
"They should resign because this is not the first time that whatever they have come back with, has been thrown back in their face. If the decision is being made by the highest authority of the land against something they had wanted to do, and they have gone ahead with the planning, then on that alone, they should resign."
