Four die in an apparent murder/suicide in Samoa

There is shock in Samoa at a murder/suicide which has left a couple and their two children dead in the Aleisa area on the main island of Upolu.

The husband, a school teacher, his wife and their two sons, who were three and five years old, were found dead outside the family home at Aleisa on Saturday evening.

The Samoa Observer says the woman and children had extensive cuts on their heads and bodies.

They are believed to have been attacked with a bushknife.

It is thought that after mutilating his wife and sons, the man electrocuted himself with a live wire he had pulled from the house.

Samoa's Police Commissioenr Papalii Lorenese Neru says the murder/suicide is a "community crisis" and is very hard to comprehend.
