China and Taiwan join WCP Fisheries Commission

The Forum Fisheries Agency says the signing up of China and Taiwan to the Tuna Convention takes effect today.

The FFA website says China and Taiwan both acceded to the Convention on the Conservation and Management of Highly Migratory Fish Stocks in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean in November.

They can now participate in the first meeting of the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission later this month.

Countries in the Pacific already party to the convention include the Cook Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Tokelau, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands and Tonga.
