A regional renewable energy workshop starts today in the Marshall Islands, with some of the world' leading energy companies participating.
The two week workshop is sponsored by the E-7 Group of electric utilities which includes nine of the world's top power companies from the G-7 nations.
One of the delegates, Makoto Suto, of the Kansai Electric Power Company in Japan and an E-7 steering committee member, says the workshop for the Northern Pacific has been in the planning stage for two years.
There is to be a second workshop for South Pacific power companies in April.
Both workshops tie in with a European Union program that is starting to fund purchase and installation of solar and alternative energy systems throughout the Pacific region.
