Tongan pro-democracy movement to hold meeting over candidates

8:18 pm on 23 March 2005

The Tongan pro-democracy movement has postponed a meeting to select two candidates to stand in the forthcoming by-elections.

A decesion was due on Wednesday, however leading MP, Akilisi Pohiva, says the meeting will now be held on Thursday.

It is being held as a result of the vacancies created when two people's representatives, Fred Sevele and Peauafi Haukinima, were appointed for the first time ever, to the 12 member cabinet.

The nobles will also choose more representatives after two of their number were appointed to cabinet.
