More police and two more aircraft have been deployed in the Indonesian province of Papua to help searchers find a plane carrying 17 people that went missing on Tuesday.

The Search and Rescue Unit chief Yayok Endari Sunar said 15 more police officers, a helicopter and a Skytruck Police aircraft would join the search today

Yesterday, searchers failed to find any trace of the twin engine Twin Otter plane bound for the village of Enarotali, which lost contact with Timika Airport on Tuesday morning shortly after takeoff.

Mr Sunar says if the plane is not found within a week, the search will be called off.
