The president of Palau, Tommy Remengesau, says a reality television programme brought five million US dollars in the local economy.

Mr Remengesau has told KU-AM TV that, since the filming of 'Survivor: Palau', the number of viewings of its government website has gone from a few thousand to three million a month.

He says the exposure won't just help Palau but the whole Micronesia region.

The television company hired more than 300 local people during the filming.

Mr Remengesau says the Palau government is in negotiations aimed at getting a major European television programme to shoot in the country.
