New report into disappearance of French Polynesian plane

A new report about the disappearance of a plane in French Polynesia three years ago suggests that it may have crashed because of a fuel supply problem.

The twin-engine plane vanished in the Tuamotu archipelago with three opposition politicians onboard, including the leader of the Fetia Api, Boris Leontieff.

The party has now released a new expert report which points to the possibility that the pilot may have not been experienced enough to deal with some aspects of operating the plane.

The news agency Tahitipresse has been told that although the pilot was fully qualified, he had only had five hours' experience with the aircraft.

The report says the plane's two tanks were not linked and on the day of the plane's disappearance, the pilot had to contend with a strong headwind.

The Fetia Api lawyer hs cast doubt on the hypothesis that there could have been foul play.

The territorial assembly is conducting its own inquiry into the mystery disappearance and is due to report its findings in a month.
