Tongan police have arrested several students following clashes between rival religious schools.

The incidents in Vava'u saw windows smashed and damage to church property in the town of Neiafu.

The pupils were from the Saineha High School of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, and the Mailefihi-Siu'ilikutapu College of the Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga.

The chief inspector of the Vava'u police, Pesalili Kailahi, says a group of Mailefihi students allegedly threw rocks and damaged the windows of the Mormon Church at Pouono.

Chief inspector Kailahi says a group of Saineha High School students and ex-students extensively damaged windows at the Neiafu Free Wesleyan's Church Maamamo'onia Hall.
