Guam summit to discuss drug problems

4:05 pm on 14 August 2006

Police in Guam say this week's 2006 Pacific Law Enforcement Drug Summit will try to combat the island's worsening illegal drug problem.

The three-day summit aims to create an action plan in collaboration with other organisations, such as the military.

Police spokesman Alan Guzman says it's the first time both the federal and local judiciary have combined forces to host the summit and invite drug enforcement officials in from Asia and the US.

"It's sad to say that we're not winning the war on drugs but if we can be able to collaborate with other agencies, aside from our local and federal, we can have a better understanding on how to combat this issue regarding the drug problem on Guam."

The summit begins on August the 16th.
