The Solomon Islands People's First Network says damage to Tikopia island in the far southeast of the country as a result of Cyclone Xavier is not too extensive.

The cyclone, which has winds of up to 195 kilometres per hour at its centre, is slowly moving down the east coast of Vanuatu and is expected to move south-south west later today.

This could affect the main island, Efate.

The network's, Winnie Lipa, says flooding has destroyed some food gardens in Tikopia, but it was not too severe.

"We have contacted our radio operator in Tikopia yesterday and there is not much damage happening to them caused by cyclone Xavier."

The only experince is heavy rain and storm. But it is going away. 16
