Papua New Guinea's acting police commissioner, Fred Sheekiot, has been investigated and cleared of two allegations of serious misconduct in office.

The allegations involve taking 1.4 million US dollars and the freeing of a female detainee from police cells.

The former police commissioner, Sam Inguba, headed an investigation into the money allegation when it surfaced earlier this year.

The police and the Ombudsman Commission have cleared him of any misconduct.
