The United States has expressed grave concern over the threat of a military coup in Fiji, saying Washington strongly opposed any "extralegal attempts" to oust the government.
Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Nicholas Burns, had called Fiji's Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase, to convey the US position in support of constitutional processes and the rule of law.
The State Department says the US remains deeply concerned about the continued threat from the military commander.
