Great Council of Chiefs will wait until after the holidays to approach military commander

Fiji's Great Council of Chiefs says it is now subject to desolation after the military decided to suspend all GCC meetings unless it gave the clearance.

Fijilive.com reports Council chairman, Ratu Ovini Bokini saying that the military's decision was not well received by the GCC members adding 'members did not expect this to happen.'

Ratu Ovini Bokini says he was shocked when the military made the announcement this week banning them from holding further meetings.

He says the longer the military prolonged the situation from being resolved, the more the pressure on the GCC to take the country forward.

Our correspondent in Fiji, Matai Akaoula says the Great Council of Chiefs are now biding their time before they approach the Commodore regarding his ruling.

"At the moment the chairman of the Great Council of Chiefs had said that probably after the Xmas or New Year break they would want to return and have dialogue with the commander, but we will have to wait and see if that will come through."
