Some bus and taxi operators in American Samoa accused of overcharging tourists

American Samoa's Governor Togiola Tulafono says a few bad apples are giving American Samoa a bad name by overcharging tourists.

The governor made the comment after callers to his weekend radio programme said some taxi and bus drivers had overcharged tourists who were in the territory last week on board the cruiseliner, the Queen Mary Two.

Togiola says the Department of Commerce, which issues business licenses, is keeping a close watch on these operators and police will be responsible for enforcing local laws.

The Commerce Department has said they will revoke the business license of any taxi or bus operator found to be overcharging passengers.
