Cook islander to lead Commonwealth Games evaluation team

Experienced sports official, Cook Islander, John Tierney, has been named Chair of the Commonwealth Games Federation's 2014 Evaluation Commission.

Tierney, the Federation's Regional Vice president for Oceania, will head a five strong team to visit 2014 Commonwealth Games candidate cities, Abuja in Nigeria, and Glasgow in Scotland in June.

The Commission will visit potential Games sites and meet with bid leaders.

The formal bid documents from the two cities will be presented to the Games Federation early next month.

The final vote will be taken by the Federation's General Assembly in Sri Lanka in November
