Solomons and RAMSI continue review discussions

1:49 pm on 15 June 2007

The Solomon Islands Government and the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands have agreed to continue dialogue on issues that impact on the operations of RAMSI.

A statement of the Solomons government says this was the outcome of the latest talks in Honiara involving delegates from the Pacific Islands Forum.

The government says it plans to debate amendments to the Foreign Investment Act in next month's sitting of parliament despite the current review being undertaken by the Forum-appointed RAMSI Review Taskforce.

On Immigration and Visa Exemptions for RAMSI personnel, the meeting noted that considerable progress has been made.

The RAMSI review is being held after serious differences emerged between Australia and Solomon Islands last year ahead of the Forum meeting at which it was agreed to address the dispute.
